"Masters" is a grand word for swimmers over about 20 years old, and Broomfield Park has a particularly thriving Masters section with up to 6 sessions a week available, covering the needs of those who swim to keep fit and those whose aims are for competitive swimming.
Some of our Masters have been previously members of our senior squad, some return to swimming when their children join us - some fit into both categories! We have had four generations of the same family swimming at the same time.
We have recently introduced an ADULT DEVELOPMENT group, mainly for those parents who maybe have learned to swim some time ago, but who want to improve their strokes, techniques and fitness. This is often because their interest in swimming has been revived by their children's involvement, and they would prefer it if they were not totally outclassed by their ten-year olds!
But beware! You will be encouraged to represent the club in the annual Enfield Borough Masters gala in November, as we try to maintain our stranglehold on the main trophies that we have held for over 15 years! The more competitively-minded of our Masters squad regularly take part in County, Region, National, and even International Championships.

Bracknell Masters Meet
On Saturday 7th March a team from Broomfield took part in the Bracknell Open meet. The meet turned out to be a very special one as Derek Parr managed to break the 200m Butterfly European record for the 65-69 year age group. His time of 2.41.64 broke the previous best by an incredible 11 seconds.
With the record in sight it felt like the whole pool was willing him along for the final 2 lengths and Derek did not let us down as he kept the pace going all the way to the end to break the record. Derek also broke the British record for his 50m Butterfly with a time of 31.59 but norrowly missed the 200m IM record, this time clocking 2.59.47.
Other highlights for the meet were Jeremy Birch winning a Silver medal in the 40-45 year old 50m free in a time of 28.27. Jeremy was joined in the freestyle relay by David Copley, Nick Robbins and Andy Crowfoot thus winning a bronze in the 160+ age group. PB's were broken by David in his 50m free(29.92) and Nick in his 50m backstroke(40.33) and his 100m IM(1.24.94).
